Invisalign® Clear Aligners are the perfect option for a patient that is looking for a discreet, comfortable and effective way to straighten their teeth, with the luxury of being able to brush and floss them properly and smile confidently in photos.
How Invisalign® works
Invisalign® consists in a series of clear aligners, custom-made to your teeth, that gently straighten your teeth over time. Overall, the treatment can take between 4 to 18 months, depending on how complex your case is.
Once your dentist decides you are a suitable candidate, the next step is a series of photos and scans of your teeth to be able to formulate the right treatment plan. This appointment takes roughly 30 minutes.
Your dentist will then discuss the digital treatment simulation with you and approve the case, allowing the fabrication of the aligners.
The journey towards your new smile
Before beginning to wear the first aligner, you may need to have some attachments (small tooth-coloured shapes) placed on the teeth that need major movements: we’ll discuss this with you in the planning appointment.
You’ll be given the aligners and you’ll change them over every 2 weeks. We require to see you for a 15minute review appointment every few weeks to check on your progress and keep track of the movements.
It’s important to wear your aligners at least 22 hours a day and remove them only to eat, drink and brush your teeth: this is the only way to ensure the treatment will be successful.
When the treatment is complete, your dentist will remove your attachments and cement a fixed wire on the back of your lower and upper teeth, and will also fabricate some plastic removable retainers to wear at night time.
This is to prevent the teeth from moving back into their original position, as we know teeth keep moving throughout our life.
