A check-up and clean is the first step towards a healthy smile. It is recommended to schedule at least one every six months to be able to detect early problems and avoid more serious issues that require invasive and costly treatment.
Oral exam & treatment planning
During your 45-60 minute appointment, expect your soft tissues, teeth and gums to be assessed through a visual examination, intraoral photography and radiographs.
Modern dental x-rays are extremely low-dosage and allow us to see what we can’t see in between teeth and below the gums. They only need to be updated every two years or if a specific problem arises, but they are essential to provide a correct diagnosis and formulate a tailored treatment plan.
Once we have all this information, we’ll be able to diagnose and formulate a treatment plan suited to your needs.
Dental cleaning and fluoride treatment
Your dental hygienist will proceed with removing any plaque, calculus and stains that can accumulate over time even with the best home dental care: they are the cause of most oral problems, from tooth decay to gum disease, poor aesthetics and bad breath.
What to expect during your hygiene appointment:
Removal of plaque and calculus with a powered water tool and a hand scaler
Flossing of all teeth
Removal of stains with a rubber cup and polishing paste
Application of a strengthening fluoride agent to reduce sensitivity and prevent decay
