Teeth whitening

Professional teeth whitening consists in applying a highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide gel to the teeth for a period of time in order to achieve a chemical reaction on the tooth, which will appear brighter and lighter.

In order to be a candidate for teeth whitening, you need to be over 18 years of age, and need to have had a comprehensive exam and clean within the last 3 months. It’s important to make sure our teeth are healthy and any dental issues have been addressed before proceeding with any cosmetic dental procedure.

In-chair whitening

This treatment takes about 90minutes altogether and is performed by your dental hygienist in our clinic.

The first step is the evaluation of your tooth shade, then we will proceed with a gentle polish of your teeth to allow the product to penetrate through them.

We will then isolate your teeth from the soft tissues using retractors and barriers in order to avoid damage to gums, cheeks and tongue.

Once you’re all set up, we will apply the whitening gel (Opalescence™ BOOST™ 40%) on your teeth for 3 rounds of 20 minutes. When complete, you will see immediate results.

As we use the highest percentage of whitening gel, temporary tooth sensitivity commonly occurs. For patients with sensitive teeth, take-home whitening is a possible alternative.

Take-home whitening

This option is ideal for time-poor individuals or those who have more sensitive teeth and would like to achieve the same results gradually.

The whitening gel is applied with the aid of some custom-made trays that adapt to your teeth and are left on for half an hour each day, for a total of 2 weeks.

It only takes your dental hygienist 15minutes to take some impressions of your teeth, and a couple of days to manufacture the trays.

The benefit of this method is that you can re-use the trays indefinitely for future top-ups.

Individual results may vary, as many factors can influence the outcome of the treatment. Consult us to find out if teeth whitening is a good option for you.

Teeth whitening is not permanent. Over time, teeth may become discolored again due to factors like diet, smoking, or aging. Maintenance appointments with your dental team are fundamental to retain the desired level of whiteness.
